  • Title: Formulating and Solving Stochastic Models in MPL

Content

At the APMOD 2008 conference, Maximal Software will be introducing for the first time, a major new enhancements to the MPL Modeling Language which allow stochastic models to be formulated in a straightforward and easy-to-read manner. In this tutorial, we will demonstrate how to formulate stochastic models in MPL, including both scenario-based and independent variables models. We will go step-by-step through several models from literature, and explain how different modeling issues that can arise, can be efficiently formulated. We will also demonstrate how stochastic models can be solved using either Nested Benders or Deterministic Equivalent, with standard solvers such as CPLEX and CoinMP.

Outline of the course

  • Short introduction to the MPL Modeling Language
  • Different types of stochastic models
  • Formulating scenario-based models in MPL
  • Formulating independent variable models in MPL
  • Solving stochastic models with CPLEX and CoinMP
